Mitchells & Butlers says the brand grew "through a mixture of acquisition and conversions from within our existing estate", meaning some steakhouses were other Mitchells & Butlers pubs before. A local news headline in October 2022, for example, reported that the Toby Carvery at Ainsdale, near Southport, would become a Miller & Carter. No official dated timeline of openings is published, and we found no source for what the Penn site was before 2006.

The brand does not say how it counts its sites. In 2025 trade press called it "the UK's biggest steakhouse group" and quoted Mitchells & Butlers' chief executive Phil Urban seeing room to grow "to around the 150-site mark". Every restaurant is on Miller & Carter locations.

What is Miller & Carter's Masters of Steak accreditation?

An accreditation from the Craft Guild of Chefs for Miller & Carter's 30 day aged steaks, which the brand describes as "a rigorous, independent audit process". Trade press dates it to 2019.

"Masters of Steak" is also the name of the chefs' training title and of the loyalty scheme, the Masters of Steak Club. Prices for every cut are on the Miller & Carter steak menu.
